If you would like to improve your English, have you considered enrolling on a FREE Functional Skills English course? We offer Entry Levels 1, 2 and 3, Level 1 and Level 2 courses.
Functional Skills English is a 12 week programme that can help build your confidence and develop your reading, writing and speaking & listening skills.
Some of the topics that will be covered include:
- How to communicate information, ideas and opinions clearly and effectively
- How to adapt communication style to suit the audience
- Conveying in written format ideas and opinions coherently and effectively
We will support you through this development journey working towards passing the accredited Functional Skills English qualification.
Eligibility & Initial Assessments
To be eligible for the any of our accredited courses you must complete an assessment process to gauge your level of English. The assessments are to be completed in your free time before the start of the course. You must achieve the following assessment results:
- Level Entry 3 English – achieve Entry 2 or Entry 3
- Level 1 English – achieve Entry 3 or Level 1
- Level 2 English – achieve Level 1 or Level 2
Functional Skills English Entry Level Courses
The purpose of Functional Skills English Entry Level qualifications is to demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, listen and communicate in English, and to apply this knowledge and these skills in familiar situations.
Entry Level English qualifications are ideal for learners wishing to develop practical, transferable skills in English in order to work confidently, effectively and independently in life.
Each course has the following components:
• Reading • Writing • Speaking, Listening and Communicating
We will assess which level is right for you by using an online assessment.
Introduction to Functional Skills
These one-hour workshops are aimed at anyone who wants to enrol for a Functional Skills English course but would like to know more about what is involved before enrolling. The will cover the course content and what is required from learners to successfully complete the course.

These courses are free for those who meet all the following funding requirements :
– you live in a London /Greater London Borough*
– you are not in full time education
– you have not achieved this qualification before
– you are aged 19 or older on 31st August 2023
-Have permission to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the first day of learning
If you don’t have permission to live in the UK for 12 months from the first day of learning there are exemptions which can be discussed with the IAG advisor that will contact you.
