Functional Skills English is a 12 week programme that can help build your confidence and develop your reading, writing and speaking & listening skills.
Some of the topics that will be covered include:
- How to communicate information, ideas and opinions clearly and effectively
- How to adapt communication style to suit the audience
- Conveying in written format ideas and opinions coherently and effectively
We will support you through this development journey working towards passing the accredited Functional Skills English qualification.
Functional Skills English Entry Level Courses
The purpose of Functional Skills English Entry Level qualifications is to demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, listen and communicate in English, and to apply this knowledge and these skills in familiar situations.
Entry Level English qualifications are ideal for learners wishing to develop practical, transferable skills in English in order to work confidently, effectively and independently in life.
Each course has the following components:• Reading• Writing• Speaking, Listening and Communicating
We will assess which level is right for you by using an online assessment.

Getting Started with Functional Skills English – Entry Level 3, Level 1 or Level 2
Weekly classes
We offer Functional Skills at a range of levels and this three‑week course will help determine the level that provides the right balance of challenge and support. You will complete a brief initial assessment and receive an overview of what is included in the different Functional Skills levels, helping you understand the distinctions between them and select the most appropriate place to begin your studies.

These courses are free for those who meet all the following funding requirements :
– you live in a London /Greater London Borough*
– you are not in full time education
– you have not achieved this qualification before
– you are aged 19 or older on 31st August 2025
-Have permission to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the first day of learning
If you don’t have permission to live in the UK for 12 months from the first day of learning there are exemptions which can be discussed with the IAG advisor that will contact you.
