Certificate in Understanding Mental Health Level 3
This programme comprises of an introduction and the full course. This introductory session is designed to give you a clear understanding of what to expect and how to succeed in the course. It will cover the key topics of the course, explain how you’ll be assessed, and outline the activities you’ll need to complete in your role to successfully earn your qualification. You must attend this introduction before you can enrol for the full accredited course.
The full course is designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of mental health, equipping you with the knowledge to make a real difference. It will focus on the study of mental health and mental well-being, providing valuable insights that are relevant across different professions. You’ll gain a solid understanding of key topics, including mental health legislation, available services, and how public attitudes toward mental health have changed over time.
The course will cover a range of units and includes topics such as:
- Supporting mental well-being at different life stages
- Understanding mental ill health, available treatment options, and potential consequences
- Developing the essential skills needed to work in a mental health service
About You
You may be currently unemployed or employed in another sector to enrol for this course. You do not need to be in a role related to the course. You are committed to your professional development.
What you Need to Know
You must attend the Introduction to Understanding Mental Health Level 3 course before joining the full course.
This course will take approximately 9 months to complete, with the flexibility of self-managed study.
There will be monthly online workshops and you must be able to complete self-study exercises between classroom assignments.
Prior to enrolment you will need to undertake an initial assessment in English and achieve a minimum result.
To attend this course and complete the coursework, you need access to a good internet connection and a laptop, computer or tablet device. If you do not have a suitable device, please speak to an IAG advisor or your tutor about the Laptop Loan Scheme.

Eligibility Requirements
Once registered we will contact you to check your eligibility before starting the enrolment process. To be eligible for funding for this course, learners must:
- Be aged 19+
- Live in London
- Have not already achieved a L3 or above qualification. Please note if you earn under £25,462.50 you are eligible for funding even if you already have a L3 or above qualification
Please note if you are not eligible for funding we provide a fee paying option of £650.
