If you would like to improve your English, have you considered enrolling on a FREE Functional Skills English course? We offer both Level 1 and Level 2 courses.
Functional Skills English is a 12 week programme that can help build your confidence and develop your reading, writing and speaking & listening skills.
Some of the topics that will be covered include:
- How to communicate information, ideas and opinions clearly and effectively
- How to adapt communication style to suit the audience
- Conveying in written format ideas and opinions coherently and effectively
We support you through this development journey working towards passing the accredited qualification Functional Skills English Level 1 or Level 2.
Eligibility & Initial Assessments
To be eligible for the courses you must achieve the following initial assessment requirements:
For Level 1 English – achieve Entry 3 or Level 1 initial assessment
For Level 2 English – achieve Level 1 or Level 2 initial assessment
WHEN
Functional Skills English Level 1 course
Starting 24th April 2021 – 20th July 2021
Time: 1 x 1.5 hour session per week
VENUE: These will be classroom based at our East Hill centre but may move online if required.
Functional Skills English Level 2 course
Starting 28th April 2021 – 21st July 2021 (*there will be no session on the 16th June 2021)
Time: 10.00am – 11.30am
1 x 1.5 hour session per week

Maths Level 1 and Level 2

Functional Skills Maths Level 2 is accepted by many employers and higher education institutions as an alternative to a GCSE English 9 to 4 (A* to C). This qualification is designed for learners who wish to develop their mathmatical skills to help them gain the most from work, education and everyday life.
Starting 28th April 2021 – 21st July 2021
Time: 2.00pm – 3.30pm
1 x 1.5 hour session per week

ICT Level 1
If you would like to improve your ICT skills, have you considered enrolling on a FREE Functional Skills ICT course?
Functional Skills ICT is a 11 week programme that can help build your skills and confidence.
This course will help you to gain transferable skills in ICT that can be applied at work and home. This course will include:
• How to identify the ICT requirements of a straightforward task
• How to use search techniques to locate and select relevant information
• How to manage information safely online
• How to develop, present and communicate information
• How to choose and use appropriate software to complete tasks
This course will help learners to gain skills and knowledge, increasing confidence of how to use ICT effectively.
Eligibility & Initial Assessments
To be eligible for the courses you must achieve the following initial assessment requirements:
For Level 1 ICT – achieve Entry 3 or Level 1 initial assessment

Starting 14th January 2021 – 8th March 2021 (no session during half-term, week of Feb 21st)

ICT Level 2
If you would like to improve your ICT skills, have you considered enrolling on a FREE Functional Skills ICT course?
Functional Skills ICT is a 12 week programme that can help build your skills and confidence.
The course is suitable for the learners who have the know-how of computer/computer skills and want to improve their everyday usage of the computer to help them become more efficient in the workplace or apply their skills at home.
The course will focus on three main core areas:
• Using ICT
• Finding and selecting information
• Developing, presenting and communicating information
Topics that will be covered under those headings include:
• Database
• Email
• File Management
• Health, Safety and Security
• Spreadsheets
• Using software appropriately to meet data-handling tasks
• Combining and presenting information
This course will help learners to gain skills and knowledge, increasing confidence of how to use ICT effectively.

These courses are FREE providing you meet the all of the following funding requirements :
– you have lived in UK or EU for at least three years
– you are a London/Greater London Borough resident
– not taking part in any other government programme (i.e. apprenticeship, etc.)
– have not achieved this qualification before
– aged 19 or older on 31st August 2020
