Starting primary school can be a daunting prospect for parents, guardians, family members and the child. This course aims to support you by providing fun and practical ideas for your child to be ready to take their next steps into reception class at school.
We will discuss activities, routines and techniques you can use to help your child settle into school life and transition successfully to attending primary school. You must be able to attend both sessions.

Introduction to Child Development in Education
This course is ideal for teaching assistants working in schools or as childcare professionals who want to expand their skillset or progress their career pathway. The course will cover:
Session 1
• The impact of the cost of living crises on child development
Session 2
• How to create a positive learning environment for children with special educational needs and disabilities
Successful completion of the course includes an online Multi-Choice assessment to be completed a week after the course has ended. An appointment will be arranged with you.

This course is free for those who meet all the following funding requirements:
- you live in a London /Greater London Borough*
- you are not in full time education
- you have not achieved this qualification before
- you are aged 19 or older on 31st August 2024
- have permission to live in the UK for at least 12 months and the VISA is valid for the duration of the course.
If you don’t have permission to live in the UK for 12 months there are exemptions which can be discussed with the IAG advisor who will contact you.
*There are occasions when funding is available for learners who don’t live in a London borough. Email edlifelong@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk to find out if this applies to you.
