Develop and accredit your skills!

We are currently running an Employment Plus programme that works with the public in identifying individual employment needs.

This learning programme will help you to identify behaviours that may have prevented progression.

This unique programme offers development opportunities with skilled trainers that will help support, guide and increase your skills set and includes accredited courses.

Apprenticeship Levy

The Apprenticeship Levy is a great oppotunity for employers to access funding that can be used to train new and existing staff members, up skilling them with abilities and knowledge that can have a positive impact in efficieny and morale.

When will it start?
6th April 2017.

Who does it affect?
Initially all employers operating in the UK that have a wage bill of over £3 million.

National Apprenticeship Week is here and to celebrate our apprentices and promote apprenticeships, Wandsworth Lifelong Learning are hosting a number of events around the borough.

City & Guilds Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training

Every thought about  a career in teaching or training? This course could be for you!

It is designed for anyone who wants to get into teaching or training adults or learners aged 14+, and would suit anyone who is currently assisting in a classroom, or who has wanted to get into teaching but has not yet been able to do so.  In the classroom, learners will participate in practical tasks which will give them a good grounding in their preparation for teaching, and will have support and guidance on completing written tasks as part of their portfolio of evidence. They will also need to complete 30 hours of teaching practice and this will be assessed three times by one of our team. 

When: Monday 23rd May to Monday 25th July 2016
Where: The Professional Centre, Franciscan Road, Tooting SW17 8HE
Time: 10:15am - 14:30pm

There are no exams – it is all coursework based evidence. 

Once achieved, the qualification will allow them to progress into employment as teachers/trainers, as well as to progress onto the Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training.

You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge, hear from people already working in the sector, consider your employment goals and identify further learning and training opportunities.

The course is free for anyone not working but looking for work
You will need to have a good command of spoken and written English.

The National CSE Awareness Day aims to highlight the issues surrounding CSE; encouraging everyone to think,
spot and speak out against abuse and adopt a zero tolerance to adults developing inappropriate relationships with

New apprenticeships for fashion industry hopefuls

Local young people who want to work in London's triving fashion industry can now apply for apprentceships roles.

Fashion Enter, an innovative social enterprise which helps people get started with fashion and textile careers, is no advertising a range of new vacancies.

The council works closely with Fashion Enter to help connect local talent with major employers. Wandsworth residents are encouraged to apply.

BEST News

Josh Keys, Social Inclusion Officer of Chelsea FC Foundation visited students from Ernest Bevin College on 12th November 2014. His inspiring talk covered his own life story of growing up in Battersea, attending a Wandsworth school and how he’s perseverance and hard work lead to his ‘dream’ job.  The students then visited Chelsea football stadium on the 26th November.

Family Learning Celebration Card Competition Winners

During the Family Learning Festival held in October, we ran an exciting drawing competition which was open to all families in Wandsworth. Children and young people from 0-16 years were invited to design a celebration or greetings card for any occasion. The competition was sponsored by the New US Embassy project in Nine Elms, who also judged the entries. This years winners will be awarded their prizes at the annual Cream Tea Awards ceremony on 9th December 2014.

This years winners were:
1st Prize - Benjamin Woods, Age 5 from Sellincourt Primary School
2nd Prize - Shayden Robinson, Age 10 from Honeywell Junior School
3rd Prize - Jathusa Sukirtha, Age 9 from Christchurch (CE) Primary School
3rd Prize  - George Ivanov, Age 4 from Sellincourt Primary School

Wandsworth Lifelong Learning Awards

Adult Learner of the Year 2012, Sinan Dumano

The Wandsworth Lifelong Learning Awards recognised the borough’s highest achieving adult learners - rewarding them for their commitment and success over the past 12 months.

During the evening more than 200 residents were presented with certificates of achievement in a variety of subjects including business administration, information technology, numeracy, book-keeping, literacy and English for speakers of other languages.

Sinan Dumano, a student at community venue Battersea Chapel, was named Wandsworth Council's 2012 Adult Learner of the Year.

Mr Dumano sustained serious head injuries a few years ago, which affected his memory and mobility. However, he overcame these challenges to successfully complete courses in literacy and information technology.

Adult Learners Week 2012

Wandsworth Lifelong Learning and various providers around the borough will be providing you with the opportunity to try something new. The initiative promotes the benfits of all kinds of learning whether for fun or to lead to a formal qualification.

Ofsted Inspection

The council’s lifelong learning service, which offers a wide range of adult education classes, delivers good quality teaching and outstanding value for money, according to Ofsted.
In April 2011 a team of six inspectors sat in on classes to observe teaching and learning in action, met with learners, tutors, provider partners and the council’s lifelong learning team to discuss their views and concerns.
